Dave Willms       Board

After spending 40 years in the Information Technology sector, Dave is now retired. He and his wife, Diane, moved to London to be closer to their son and his family and are looking forward to seeing what God has planned for them now.  Dave has been involved in church for most of his life, having grown up in a Christian home.  Even though he was baptized after a confession of faith as a teenager, he felt strongly compelled to re-dedicate his life to Christ several years ago to strengthen his commitment.

Over the last 20 years Dave has served in various capacities of church finances; as bookkeeper, treasurer, and as an elder in charge of finance.  He is currently involved with the Village Green finance team. Says Dave: “It is exciting to see God at work here.”

Davi Pontes

Davi Pontes       Board

Born in Brazil, Davi immigrated to Canada in 2008, along with his wife Bruna, shortly after getting married in their home country.  He was excited to see what God had in store for them in their new life together. They have two young boys (Nathan and Noah) who share his love for sports and music. They started attending Village Green in 2009, and are glad to call this community home.

Davi studied Biology and has an M.Sc. in Cellular Biology, and has developed a career leading Operations and IT in the Health Industry in London. His passions are continuous process improvement, coaching teams and leading projects in a team environment, but the biggest one is music. At Village Green, he’s served by leading our Worship Team and helping with some IT-related activities over the years.

Says Davi: “I am always amazed at the work God has done in bringing this vibrant community together to serve, to worship, and to be a light in the world – it’s such a pleasure and an honour to serve here, and to see God’s work happen right in front of your eyes. What a blessing to have people we can call friends, and that truly participate in our lives in a meaningful way, which is very important for us since we don’t have family here. It’s an honour for me to continue to serve and help God touch people’s lives through all of our ministries – loving God, loving others, and changing the world.”

His education includes an Associates Degree in Aircraft Maintenance, with additional education in progress.

Says Jarred: “I am truly amazed when I look at Village Green and see how much God has blessed us as a church. He has given us the ability to make a positive influence for His glory within the community around us. Thank you to everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve on the Board.”

Don Shirley        Board

I am a retired high school teacher, happily married to Jane, proud father of three grown sons and grandfather of three wonderful grandsons.
I came to faith early
in life and it has been a fascinating journey through good times and very difficult times knowing that God has been leading me into a closer relationship with Him.

I have been a member at Village Green for over thirty years and in that time I have been a deacon, a director, chair of the board, finance committee chair as well as coach of the baseball team. I have been thankful for the opportunity to serve in the various ways over the years and would look forward to offering my experience and abilities on the board again. It is exciting to see what God is doing at Village Green and would like to have the opportunity to be part of expanding His Kingdom here in Westmount and beyond.

Al Vanderlaan        Board Chair

Al’s family began attending Village Green in 2011. He grew up in various locations around Ontario (Ridgetown, Leamington, Port Perry, Seaforth) before settling in London following graduation from Bible College. I have worked at Forest City Fire Protection for the past 13 years. He enjoys playing all types of sports.

Says Al: “My late uncle had a saying that he told to his kids before they left the house to head to school, work, party’s, etc.  The saying was “Remember whose you are!” He said it as a reminder that not only were they representing themselves but also their family name, and that as Christians they also were representing Christ. Here at Village Green we need to remember whose we are: the beloved Children of God, adopted as heirs to share in the Glory of God, able to access the very throne of God. We have been given the spirit of God and nothing on earth can separate us from God’s love!”

Kim has enjoyed her involvement in the children’s ministry at Village Green over the past few years. She says, ” God has always put me in interesting places with interesting people. I guess this is one of them. I really want to see how my thoughts, ideas and values can impact the church and community and how that will impact me. I know that God has a plan for me on the board.”
